Aims

The National Orientation Course is designed to give people with an interest in horses, an introductory understanding of the care of horses. The course is aimed at both riders and non-riders.

Objectives

The Course aims to provide people with a basic knowledge of general horse care and to provide a safe environment for both horse and riders (handler) . To offer an expansion of the basic skills learned in the Core Course, a variety of electives is available to continue to develop further skills in 'Horsemastership' are offered.

Learning Outcomes

Participants who have completed the course will feel competent in the handling and daily care horses. They will acquire the knowledge to ensure that they provide a safe environment for both themselves and the horses they are involved with.

Course Recognition

The Senior Horse Management Certificates Course is recognised by the Equestrian Federation of Australia, Inc. (EFA) as equivalent to Level 1 Module 6 Horse Management, undertaken with co-operation and recognition of the Equestrian Federation of Australia, National coaches accreditation Scheme.

Course Pre-Requisites

Riding skills are not a pre-requisite. All candidates must have the Orientation 'O' Level Horse Management Certificate to enroll in the programme and minimum of 16 years old. A minimum of 400 hours. Supervised practical experience is required. It is not necessary to have completed these hours prior to the start of the programme but may be obtained throughout the course. However, if the candidate can present proper approval and sign-off by will be required for these additional practical hours.
